It's a bit pedantic of me to say that, but you're being somewhat pedantic about orthography yourself in this submission. You have copy-pasted one opinion on “霰弹枪” versus “散弹枪”, but did you consider alternative views? The Taiwan version of the Wikipedia article on shotguns is titled 散彈槍, not 霰彈槍. The article indicates that 霰彈槍 is the alternative form of 散彈槍, rather than the reverse: "散弹枪（scattergun、shotgun），又称霰弹枪, ..." The title of the mainland version of the article, on the other hand, is 霰弹枪. Is it not possible that the Taiwanese adopted 散彈槍 via orthographic borrowing from the Japanese word 散弾銃? Certainly seems plausible. Google results suggest that 霰弹枪 is more often used in mainland China than 散弹枪, while 散彈槍 is more common than 霰彈槍 in Taiwan.
