Editor: Despite what many dictionaries say, 典故 doesn't mean "allusion".

If you think someone is lying and you say "I think your nose grew a bit longer just now", it's an allusion to the story of Pinocchio.

典故是诗文作品里引用的古代故事和有来历出处的词语。典故有两个要素,一是古代的,二是要有出处,不具备这两个条件就不能称之为典故。

The expression "I think your nose grew a bit longer just now" is not a 典故 because it is not sourced from classical literature.
