<< review queue entry 73274 - submitted by 'richwarm' >> ; A bound form — and its essential meaning is "to leave behind". I don't think we need to add anything else. E.g. 遗尿 = TO LEAVE urine BEHIND in one's bedding (no need to make up an extra meaning for 遗 like "involuntary discharge") Similarly, "losing" and "omitting" and "bequeathing" are specific types of "leaving behind". Users can readily discern how 遗 works in compounds by perusing the entries for those compounds: 遗尿, 遗作, 补遗, etc. We shouldn't spoon-feed users, because they are better off discovering for themselves by doing this work (perusing the compounds). (This comment applies to other bound forms as well as 遺, but doesn't necessarily apply to free words.) |
