<< review queue entry 73192 >> Han2 > han2 Hallyu, or Korean Wave, is the word depicting the popularity of the culture of the Republic of Korea, including K-pop music and K-dramas. The term Hallyu was first used in the early 90’s after South Korea entered into diplomatic relations with China, in 1992. ----------------------------------- Editor: The pinyin for 韓流 is capitalized because 韓流 is a proper noun: it refers to a specific phenomenon, not a generic one. By contrast, 韓服 is a generic term. (There are many hanboks, but only one Hallyu.) That's why the Pinyin for 韓服 is hánfú, not Hánfú. |
