<< review queue entry 72386 - submitted by 'gregboothe' >> Editor: I'll decline this one. The format is XX而V. Basically, these forms mean "(to V) (in a manner described as XX)". In this case, "to come out (出) gushing/squirting/... (喷薄)" --> "to gush out" or "to well out" etc. Some XX而V forms are more idiomatic than others, but this one seems to present no difficulty in any way. We have 噴薄 already, and also a number of examples of XX而出 that illustrate how the pattern works: https://cc-cedict.org/editor/editor.php?handler=QueryDictionary&querydictionary_search=%E8%80%8C%E5%87%BA I can understand why none of the dictionaries I checked saw fit to include an entry for 喷薄而出. |
