------------------------------ Editor: I don't think anyone would actually use the term "social butterfly woman", so I prefer to say "(female) social butterfly". But 交际花 has a range of meanings that only partially overlaps with "(female) social butterfly". E.g. 出人舞场饭店,打扮得像个交际花,喝酒抽烟,说话也变得粗俗下流,言谈不离饮食男女, "hanging out in dance halls and restaurants, making herself up like a whore, drinking and smoking and lots of filthy language, interested only in eat drink man woman" In another novel, someone is described as a 交際花, but the connotations are not so derogatory in this case: 他這話還沒說完,猛的一陣香風,送進了一位袒肩露臂的年青女子。 Wikipedia's article https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/交際花 is paired with the English article "Courtesan". As an approximation, I will go with /(female) social butterfly; socialite/courtesan/ for now. |
