<< review queue entry 71995 - submitted by 'richwarm' >> I suggest deletion. 1) This appears to be an incorrect version of the saying. GV "让人家去说" - 11,700 (with many of the top results derived from cc-cedict) "让人家说去" - 27,800 results (even without the benefit of cedict-derived results) K has the 让人家说去, not the 让人家去说 version. A 2009 book title uses "让人家说去": 《走自己的路让别人说去》是2009年中国妇女出版社出版的图书,作者是陈南。 An article headed 走自己的路,让人家去说吧是出自谁的名言 says that wording is mistaken: 我想应该是"走自己的路,让别人说去吧。” 2) There is a similar expression in Dante, which was apparently adapted by Marx. Web snippet: "Dante’s lesson to all of us: “Segui il tuo corso e lascia dir le gente” (“Follow your own road and let people talk”). Basically, Dante is telling us to follow our own star – to walk our own unique path." So maybe it's misleading to call the saying a "popular modern cliche." 3) It seems wrong to suggest that it means "Do it my way." 4) The meaning of the saying is clear enough. I don't think we need an entry for it. |
