<< review queue entry 71029 - submitted by 'cws' >> “两米高衣柜”共找到358件商品 A total of 358 products were found for "Two-meter-high wardrobe" https://www.taobao.com/list/product/两米高衣柜.htm -------------------------- Editor: If you suggested to an English dictionary that they should have an entry for "meters high" on the basis that people refer to things such as "a two-meter-high wardrobe", I think they'd reject it on the grounds that a) they already have entries for "meter" and "high" b) "two-meter-high wardrobe" follows the pattern {MEASUREMENT (number + unit of length)} + {ADJECTIVE (high, deep, wide etc)} + {THING} ... as do the following expressions: - 2 foot long lizard - five centimeter deep puddle - 3 meter wide garage etc Rather than add a long list of terms like - meter high - foot long - centimeter deep - meter wide - meter deep - inches high (and so on) ... a dictionary will expect you to learn the pattern mentioned above. In Chinese, it's a similar situation. |
