<< review queue entry 70720 - submitted by 'tubbums32' >> New word not in the system; obtained via Youtube CC -------------------------------------- Editor: I'm not sure that "stick together as a group" is quite right, or at least, I think it's not as good a match with 抱团 as "band together". "stick together" is about *staying together* as a group whereas 抱团 seems to be about *forming* a group (in many cases, at least -- see examples below). GF says, in its entry for 抱团儿, that it means "form a group" (表示结成一伙儿), which is not the same as "stick together". If a teacher takes a group of schoolchildren outside the school grounds, s/he might tell them to "stick together as a group" (i.e. don't go wandering off by yourself). I don't think s/he would tell the children to 抱团 ("band together" or "form a united group"). Examples: 中国承诺优待德国和法国,从而让英国和意大利心情紧张,并鼓励较小的东欧国家抱团开启另一场对话。 By promising to advantage Germany or France, Beijing worries Britain and Italy and encourages smaller eastern European states to club together to start a separate dialogue. 在许多例子中,传统政党变成了政治学家所谓的"卡特尔 ": 它们用国家资源保护权力,不管政策上有什么区别,往往会抱团打压挑战者。 In many cases, traditional parties have become what political scientists call "cartels": they use state resources to remain in power, and, regardless of their policy differences, they often work together to keep out challengers. 或许令人吃惊的是,这种"抱团"很有必要。 It might seem surprising that this kind of clubbing together was necessary. 这些因素结合起来形成了一种校园文化,很多学生抱团抄袭家庭作业,提供考试建议, All this makes for a culture in which many students band together, sharing homework and test advice 政治活动捐款人如何抱团行动 How Political Donors Band Together 由于中国游戏海外出口市场呈现"抱团出海" with the coexistence of facilitators such as companies teaming up for overseas expansion |
