A person may take a specific action against someone else as an act of retribution, whereas 報應 is normally not something caused by a person; rather, it is the *universe* that is punishing someone who has done wrong. For example, someone gets sick because of bad things they have done in the past, as in the first example sentence below. 3) LA ~ 佛教用語。指種善因得善果，種惡因得惡果。後多指做壞事會得惡報。 -------------- 「都是我平常太兇惡，是報應吧？」 During her two-hour operation, Li-ping was worried and apprehensive, praying and even wondering if this was retribution for her evil ways.
