I think "peruse" is not actually wrong, since it can mean
"read (something), typically in a thorough or careful way." (Oxford)

But it commonly means something different:
1) to look over or through in a casual or cursory manner

2) to read through something, especially in order to find the part you are interested in: 'He opened a newspaper and began to peruse the personal ads.'

Therefore I suggest replacing it with something less ambiguous.
