In other words, I don't think 猎巫 means "witch hunt". 吃飯 means "to have a meal" or, as a noun, "having a meal", but not "a meal". 唱歌 means "to sing a song" or, as a noun, "singing a song", but not "a performance of a song". In other words, these verb-object compounds 吃飯 and 唱歌 denote an activity but not an *instance* of that activity. Similarly, I believe 猎巫 means "to conduct a witch hunt" or "conducting a witch hunt", but not "a witch hunt" You can say 一場獵巫行動 一場獵巫戰役 一場獵巫的風潮 一場獵巫運動 but I don't believe it's correct to refer to a witch hunt as simply 一場猎巫. |
