He defeats Xiao Yuanshan and Murong Bo and puts them to sleep while clearing their minds of their delusional ambitions. When the two of them recover from their trance, they are very grateful to him and become his apprentices. The Monk's prowess in inner energy and martial arts is so powerful that only Xiao Feng's "Eighteen Dragon Subduing Palms" could overcome him. In the revised second edition of the novel, the Sweeper Monk sustains internal injuries after Xiao Feng uses the "Eighteen Dragon Subduing Palms" against him.
