----------------------------

Editor: For the first sense I will go with a more general gloss; it's not necessarily a matter of *writing* one's name. For example, one example in dictionaries is the case where one does a good deed without identifying oneself

There's this too:
To encourage tree burials and ash scatterings, these options are available completely free of charge, but people are not allowed to set up a memorial tablet or a name plaque, or to commemorate the dead by burning incense or chanting sutras.

"Reputation" examples ~
"I'm sure I'll go down in history, so I don't give a hoot what other people think,"

regardless of what lies ahead for Kou Chou Ching, their brave foray into the creation of hip hop with a local flavor has assured them a place in Taiwanese music history.
Diff:
# 留名 留名 [liu2 ming2] /write one's name/leave behind a reputation/
+ 留名 留名 [liu2 ming2] /to leave one's name/to leave behind a reputation/to be remembered (in history)/
