<< review queue entry 67603 - submitted by 'richwarm' >> "valiant" is one of the three glosses that appeared in ACE (1978): "intrepid; doughty; valiant" All of those three glosses miss the mark. 1. intrepid Unlike 强悍, "intrepid" has humorous connotations. Oxford ~ "intrepid : fearless; adventurous (often used for rhetorical or humorous effect)" ‘Having cycled into work, the intrepid reporter decided he needed a shower.’ 2. doughty This is an archaic word that nowadays is mainly used for humorous effect. Oxford ~ "(archaic, humorous) Brave and persistent." 3. valiant This word means "showing courage or determination". That's not really what 强悍 means. See examples below.
