"regard sb as an outsider" can imply that one is suspicious of the other person, for example. That's not what 见外 implies. (So this is a problem with our existing definition too, which I guess is the reason the second gloss is being proposed.) It's an awkward word to define in a single gloss because it can apply to either the host (treating a guest as an outsider) or the guest (acting like a outsider). |
