Editor:
It's boats that "capsize"; vehicles "overturn".

It's tracks, not a rut. That's mentioned in the Baike reference: "the track of an overturned cart". But the plural form ("tracks") would be better, since we are talking about a cart rather than a unicycle.

A rut is a track that has become permanent as a result habitual wearing ("a track worn by habitual passage"). That's not the meaning of 辙 in 覆辙 -- there's no implication that carts repeatedly followed the same path so as to form ruts.

Examples for 重蹈:

為了避免重蹈上次情人節空手赴約的尷尬場面,
Not wanting to repeat a previous Valentine's Day debacle when he had turned up to see his sweetheart empty-handed,

未來孩子是否真能不再重蹈法網?
Who knows whether the children will end up on the wrong side of the law again?

為了避免重蹈過去6次修憲治絲益棼的覆轍,
To avoid the entanglements that occurred during the last six amendments,
Diff:
- 覆轍 覆辙 [fu4 zhe2] /disastrous policy/
# + 覆轍 覆辙 [fu4 zhe2] /(lit.) rut of a vehicle which ended up capsizing/(fig.) past mistakes (which should not be repeated)/policy that leads to a disaster/
+ 覆轍 覆辙 [fu4 zhe2] /the tracks of a cart that overturned/(fig.) a path that led to failure in the past/
# Adding:
- 重蹈 重蹈 [chong2 dao3] /to repeat/to follow the same road as/
+ 重蹈 重蹈 [chong2 dao3] /(fig.) to repeat (mistakes made in the past)/
