<< review queue entry 67051 - submitted by 'richwarm' >> 1. The headword is missing a character (孜). 2. Nobody seems to call it "Paziklike" except us (and sources that use us). "The Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves (Chinese: 柏孜克里千佛洞; pinyin: Bózīkèlǐ Qiānfódòng, Uyghur: ېىزەكلىك مىڭ ئۆيى ) is a complex of Buddhist cave grottos dating from the 5th to 14th century between the cities of Turpan and Shanshan (Loulan) ..." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bezeklik_Caves I think Wp is right to spell 千佛洞 as a single unhyphenated word in pinyin (Bózīkèlǐ Qiānfódòng). LAC agrees: 庫木吐喇千佛洞 PY kùmùtǔlā qiānfódòng We have "Fo2" rather than "fo2" but "Buddha" is not necessarily a proper noun. (although "*the* Buddha" is a reference to a specific person, namely Siddhārtha Gautama). Buddha: 1. A person who has attained full enlightenment. 2. A statue or picture of the Buddha. In neither of these senses is "Buddha" a reference to one specific individual or thing. It's not known exactly where the name 千佛洞 came from, but it thought that it may be related to sense #2 of "Buddha". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mogao_Caves#Etymology Editor: missing zi1 in py. |
