<< review queue entry 66707 - submitted by 'richwarm' >> "to fold" is quite misleading. I believe it comes from the following sort of usage: 停棲時雙翅合攏,when at rest [dragonflies] fold [their wings] over their backs This is a special sense of "fold" which is unlikely to occur to the user on reading our definition. There's no bending here: the insect folds one wing over the other. To make it clearer you'd have to say sth like "to fold (one's wings)" "to close" isn't very good either -- it's quite ambiguous. J Some flowers shut up at night as if( they were) to sleep. 一些花在晚上合拢了花瓣,好像要睡觉似的。 Cupping his hands, the captain called, "Did you find the lost man?" 船长将双手合拢在嘴边朝小船大声喊道:“你们找到那个失踪的人了吗?” |
