"right-hand side"? No, not true. LA def of 旁: 漢字的偏旁。例 「提手旁」、「單人旁」、「豎心旁」。 Those components are all on the *left*-hand side. "often the phonetic" In fact, it's often the semantic component. See examples in point #2. Note also that 形旁 means "*semantic* component". 4. /beside/one side/other/side/self/ --> /one side/other/different/ a) "side" or "one side" should come first. b) Why do we need both "side" and "one side"? c) I don't see "self" in dictionaries. d) I went with Chao&Yang's def: "one side; other, different". e) The 3 senses I'm proposing match 3 of GF's 4 senses. |
