"curse" can mean "Utter offensive words in anger or annoyance."
https://www.lexico.com/en/definition/curse

In many of the examples of the verb "curse" on that page, the cursing is not directed at another person -- it's either
1. addressed to oneself (‘I cursed myself for my carelessness’) or
2. to nobody in particular (i.e. intransitive usage such as ‘he cursed loudly as he burned his hand’).
"to curse in rage" sounds to me like a case of #2, whereas 怒骂 is transitive.

So I think "to verbally abuse" is a better expression.

J ~ The lady next door scolded us for throwing the ball into her flowers.

attacked professors as "running dogs" of the university president

Child abuse is not limited to beatings, berating, and sexual abuse. There are many forms of neglect or mistreatment that can have far-reaching harm.

On the occasions when she couldn't make her payments, she would be cursed and screamed at by the creditor

Yet once professors become the objects of invective, jokes and gossip, isn't the traditional respect for teachers put at risk?
