Dictionaries I have access to only define the historical meanings (military and Taoist), but 令牌 is also generally used as a translation for token in modern computing (CC-CEDIC has 令牌环 token ring and 令牌环网 token ring network but not 令牌)

I would call that object a tablet but I'm submitting Command Placard after this quote in the The Encyclopedia of Taoism:
"The Command Placard (lingpai 令牌) is a long and narrow wooden plate, rounded at the top and flat at the bottom."
