Of the three senses in the current entry, "transliterate" is only one that is both correct and commonly used -- it should go at the front. 2. /to transmit/to pass on written message/ This was written by Miles. I believe he got "transmit" from http://www.zdic.net/c/c/164/364330.htm But I think that's wrong or very rare. Where he got the other bit is a mystery. It doesn't correspond to zdic's Chinese def (常用于发表或传送更为无形的新闻条目的机构), and I can't find anything to support it. It could be a guess based on (a) "转 means pass on" and (b) "写 means writing". Or it could be an attempt to explain which sense of "transmit" is intended. That zdic entry is weird, anyway: the Chinese definition seems to mean "a mechanism for publishing or conveying even less tangible news items". What on earth does that refer to? And the "example" sentence 打字机甚至已经成为把诗歌写在纸上的直接手段 doesn't even contain the word 转写! What's the point of it? I suggest we dump the first two glosses of our def unless we can find some support for them. I can't. 3. /to transfer words onto a surface by direct contact (as with a decal)/ J has "electrostatic transfer 静电转写", which sounds like the way a photocopier transfers an image to paper from its internal drum. And (more reliably), GR has 转写术 [beaux arts] décalcomanie. In English, that's decalcomania ("the process of transferring designs from prepared paper on to glass or porcelain").
