Wiktionary says "From a Southeast Asian language, perhaps Malay mangga or a Tai word (Wei, 2000). Second character 果 (guǒ, “fruit”) is a phono-semantic matching or a literal translation." Like I said, I don't want to spend too much time on verifying loanword information when there is so much to do on definitions, and so few of us editors. Note that the usual format is to have the tag *after* the definition: - 安吉爾 安吉尔 [an1 ji2 er3] /angel (loanword)/ - 高爾夫 高尔夫 [gao1 er3 fu1] /golf (loanword)/ - 批薩 批萨 [pi1 sa4] /pizza (loanword)/ etc. ... unless there are multiple glosses, as in 脫口秀 脱口秀 [tuo1 kou3 xiu4] /(loanword) talk show/stand-up comedy/ |
