<< review queue entry 63438 - submitted by 'richwarm' >> 【词语】: 教师爷 【拼音】: jiào shī yé 【解释】: 在地主庄院里传授武艺、看家护院,维护其主子统治的人。 http://www.hydcd.com/cidian/16780.htm Also in ABC. ------------------------------ The U.S. State Department’s 2010 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices seems to have been the inspiration for a page on Baidu’s online encyclopedia coining a new word: 人权教师爷 rénquán jiàoshīyé. Renquan means “human rights,” jiaoshi means “teacher,” and ye literally means “grandfather,” so the sense is that the U.S. is arrogantly and condescendingly “teaching” the rest of the world about human rights. Jiaoshiye is not a common word: The reason I looked it up is because General Secretary Xí Jìnpíng 习近平 used it in his speech (in Chinese) today celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party. That was the meeting — according to the Party’s simplified narrative — that launched the reform and opening-up policy. In the speech, Xi says, per the translation of the Associated Press and other media, “that no one can ‘dictate’ China's economic development path.” The Chinese phrase is: 没有可以对中国人民颐指气使的教师爷 “Nobody can be the teacher master of the Chinese people.” Although the U.S. is not explicitly mentioned even once, the word jiaoshiye sends a very clear message to a domestic audience: Xi is going to stand up for China against America. https://mailchi.mp/2225db7b9d85/no-news-is-good-news-908835?e=c7e4b62373 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVJvlH7_pic ------------------------------ 2013 article “中国梦”——请西方教师爷走开 http://www.caogen.com/blog/Infor_detail.aspx?id=0&articleId=47185 BB article 人权教师爷 https://baike.baidu.com/item/%E4%BA%BA%E6%9D%83%E6%95%99%E5%B8%88%E7%88%B7 Example: 蔡维利: 师傅,他太厉害了,我看咱回去吧! Cai Wei Li: Sir, he's too smart for us, let's just go back home! 赵本山: 不行,卖拐把他忽悠瘸了,卖车把他忽悠嗫了,在10分钟之内不把他摆平,我就没法跟你俩当教师爷了! Zhao Ben Shan: No way! The first time I tricked him lame, the second time I tricked him dumb, and within ten minutes I'm gonna trick him until he can't walk! Alright, that's it there's no way I can be you guys' master! |
