<< review queue entry 63000 - submitted by 'richwarm' >> 1) I think "hegemony" is a) probably copied from ABC b) wrong 霸氣 means "hegemonic manner" (literally, it's the 氣 atmosphere, manner, spirit, etc. of a 霸 overlord). It doesn't mean "hegemony". A hegemony is a *state of affairs* (viz, a position of predominance over others (霸權的地位)), not a style or manner (氣). Apart from that, a hegemony is almost always something that involves a geopolitical entity (e.g. the USA) or a social group (e.g. the aristocracy), whereas 霸氣 is typically an attribute of individual people. hegemony - The predominance of one state or social group over others. https://ahdictionary.com/word/search.html?q=hegemony 2) A native Chinese Wiktionary editor wrote "It's mostly a positive word in Chinese, unlike 'overbearing' in English." Also, K has glosses for pejorative usage and other glosses labeled {new usage, in a positive sense}. Therefore I have included "assertive" and "boldness". 3) There were well over a dozen adjectives I thought of, but I selected just three (+ two nouns) so that the def wouldn't be too long. dictatorial arrogant autocratic domineering imperious overbearing high-handed bossy bold hegemonic aggressive dominant imposing assertive intimidating etc. 4) Classifier examples: - 无敌的霸气更是充斥全身,一举一动都随意地散发出一股霸气。 - 贵公子模样,还是带着一股霸气. - 骨子里透着一股霸气 5) Usage TP ~ 帶著南部人特有鄉土霸氣的何勝雄, Ho Sheng-hsiung, who has the characteristically feisty, autocratic style of his native southern Taiwan, 他在台北市的大刀闊斧為他贏得好評,但也因為他的霸氣,使得府會關係陷入冰點。 his manner was often perceived as overbearing and this led to frozen relations with the city council. 黃鼠狼竟霸氣十足地對他狂哮一番, the weasel would bark bossily 外表霸氣的王偉忠,其實是個心地善良, seems tough on the outside, but really he's got a good heart. Ch'Pod ~ 一种非常庞大霸气的动物,一般是黑色的,身体粗壮,肚子很大,尾巴很长,身上有一对像蝙蝠一样的翅膀,嘴里会喷火,攻击性很强,很多时候是邪恶的象征。 A kind of immense, aggressive animal. Generally they're black, with a thick, muscular body, a big belly, a long tail, and a pair of wings like a bat. They have fire in their mouths, they're powerful attackers, and they're often a symbol of evil. 北方 男人 虽然 热情 豪爽,却 也 比较 霸气,容易 冲动。 Although they're enthusiastic and straightforward, Northern men are also a bit tyrannical, and rather impulsive. |
