I think even when they say 刻板 it can't really be "unrelenting"; I tried to reconcile all this with "plodding" (which conveys both obstinacy and awkwardness). 4. Some give this as zhan pi, and why not? The fact that I find entries which suggest that these were also found in literature with 黏 (and of course it can only be one idiom, although they give separate entries), is in my opinion very telling (it used to be one word and one pronunciation). This chengyu is very dead anyway, so who can tell? Here is what I find in dicts for the different forms: * 粘皮着骨 比喻人固执呆板 形容言行办事不干脆爽利，执着刻板。 比喻执着， 刻板。 * 粘皮带骨 形容言行不干脆，不爽快。 比喻办事不麻利、纠缠不清或头绪纷乱 形容言行不乾脆，不爽快。 糾纏牽扯、不夠乾脆俐落。[...] 比喻固執、呆板。 * 黏皮着骨 比喻拖沓，不洒脱。同“黏皮带骨”。 形容言行办事不干脆爽利，执着刻板 (the example 异端说得黏皮着骨 sounds more like "confused" to me) * 黏皮帶骨 比喻拖沓，不洒脱。 Editor: 1) Some sources have "zhuo pi", like this one: https://digchinese.com/en/saying/nianpizhuogu 2) A's literal gloss is "(meat) with the skin and bone". Anyway, none of these literal interpretations seems enlightening. |
