1. The current def is almost identical to A's:
①take transportation ②ride instead of walk ◆n. means of transportation
which in turn is most likely derivative of ACE's "ride instead of walk".

2. As far as I can see (after looking at usage) 代步 almost never (or maybe never) means "means of transport".
So that should be moved from the head of the definition.
Can we delete it altogether? Does it ever have that sense?
LA doesn't include that sense. Their def is 代替步行。
M does define it as precisely that sense (means of transport): 代替步行的工具。如船、車、馬等。
But M's example sentence is at odds with the def: 「現代人多以汽車、機車代步。」-- "People nowadays often use cars and scooters to get around." (right?)
In the usage I've seen, the term 代步工具 is used to mean "means of transport".

3. Examples:
Yeh for many years has been touring the city on his bicycle,
沒有名車代步,doesn't drive an expensive car
While bypassing the tunnel in sedan chairs, they found Tzuhu hidden in the forest.
he became unable to maintain his balance and often fell down, eventually requiring a wheelchair to get around.

Earlier we found that many elderly people had problems walking, and they were scared of going outside without some kind of aid. So we started making three-wheeled electric mobility scooters
Diff:
- 代步 代步 [dai4 bu4] /means of transportation/to take transportation/to ride instead of walk/
# + 代步 代步 [dai4 bu4] /to get around using a conveyance (car, bicycle, sedan chair etc)/to ride (or drive)/
+ 代步 代步 [dai4 bu4] /to get around using a conveyance (car, bicycle, sedan chair etc)/to ride (or drive)/means of transportation/
