<< review queue entry 59959 - submitted by 'marcardar' >> More commonly pronounced 5th tone: http://chinese.stackexchange.com/a/23203/3645 -------------------------- Editor: I checked 9 dictionaries, and all said [zuo3 mian4]. Checked Forvo. Two out of two speakers said [zuo3 mian4]. https://forvo.com/word/%E5%B7%A6%E9%9D%A2/#zh Also checked Chinesepod Glossary. It was [zuo3 mian4] there too. http://chinesepod.com/tools/glossary/entry/%E5%B7%A6%E9%9D%A2 Your informant songyuanyao might be right in saying that 左面 is "pronounced by light tone more commonly", but 1) even he admits it's pronounced "by both light tone and the 4th tone" 2) other native speakers might say something different. Why insist on uniformity in dictionaries (regarding the pronunciation of 面 in a range of different words) if none exists in reality? |
