1) I'm calling BS on the notion that 卷起 could be a gymnastic or diving twist.
The main problem is that 卷起 would imply curling up the body like this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DB2GHc94j64
... whereas a twist involves *rotation* of the body, keeping it as uncurled as possible, like this:

Here is some gymnastic jargon:
Basic gymnastics(基本體操)
《turn(twist)》轉體
《full turn(full twist)》 轉體360;全轉體

In diving too, you use 转, not 卷, for twisting maneuvers.
e.g. twist dive 转体跳水

2) "furl an umbrella"?
GV
"卷起雨伞" = 1 result
"卷起伞" -伞面 = 7 results
"收拢伞" = about 9,980 results
------------------

3) Trad form - in TP, it's 捲起 every time, not 卷起.
Diff:
- 卷起 卷起 [juan3 qi3] /to roll up/to curl up/to furl (a flag, umbrella etc)/to swirl (of dust, wind, sandstorm etc)/twist (in gymnastics)/
+ 捲起 卷起 [juan3 qi3] /to roll up/to curl up/(of dust etc) to swirl up/
# - 捲起 卷起 [juan3 qi3] /variant of 卷起[juan3 qi3]/
+ 卷起 卷起 [juan3 qi3] /variant of 捲起|卷起[juan3 qi3]/
