More "to admit" than recruit?
Am I correct that it's almost always used for universities (or at least schools, based on exam results). Couldn't find any other example.
---------------------------------------

Editor: Our entry is a truncated version of the ACE definition, which has been widely copied: "enroll; recruit; admit"
So "admit" would have been part of our definition if we could just copy others competently :-)

I think
1) "enrolling" technically comes *after* 錄取ing (i.e. after one is accepted)
2) "recruit" is also a bit lacking as a gloss
3) "admit" is good, although we clearly can't just say 錄取 [lu4 qu3] /to admit/

EXAMPLES
* Academic example:
After Liu Hsuen, son of writer Liu Yung, was admitted to Harvard University,

* Employment examples:
The year he began working, more than 2,000 people tested for 80 positions, but half of these positions were reserved for Japanese candidates.

the hiring and retaining rates are generally higher for people hired through introduction by employees

* This example is about neither a job nor a place in a university (but it does involve screening)
[I remember when I first entered university, I tried out for an extracurricular choir group. I wasn't really very confident about my own singing talent,]
> but I got accepted.
--------------------------------

Notes:
1) LA also mentions a screening process: 選取考試合格的人。

2) LA has a 2nd sense we might add later: 訊問、記錄。例 「錄取口供」。
and I see this on the Web: 《查問疑犯及錄取口供的規則及指示》

3) I have submitted
(which ABC mistakenly defines as "enrollment rate").
Diff:
- 錄取 录取 [lu4 qu3] /to recruit/to enroll/
# + 錄取 录取 [lu4 qu3] /to recruit/to enroll/
+ 錄取 录取 [lu4 qu3] /to accept an applicant (prospective student, employee etc) who passes a screening process/to admit (a student)/to hire (a job candidate)/
