But this seems too specific a gloss for a more general expression like 矫枉过正. In the following example, I think 矯枉過正 is simply overcorrection in a specific context: 「為什麼單親媽媽很可憐，單親爸爸就不可憐？」吳燦城不解地說，現在講求兩性平權，但有時卻矯枉過正，很多福利都往婦女方面傾斜，... "Why is a single mother pitied, but not a single father?" asks Wu. In some ways, he complains, equality of the sexes has gone too far in that most welfare assistance tends to go to women. J ~ reverse discrimination ph.1. 逆差别待遇,反向歧视(由于在歧视黑人、妇女等政策上矫枉过正而使白人、男人蒙受不利) --------------------- "to push sth too far the other way" Hardly seems necessary to explain what 'overcorrect' means. |
