<< review queue entry 59413 >> should be Xiao4, not xiao1. ------------------------------------------- Editor: I can find references that give [xiao1] for 肖 in transliterating foreign names like Sean, Chopin, and Nouakchott. On the other hand, I can also find other references that say it's [xiao4]. In the present case, I have one anonymous person declaring "should be Xiao4". On the other hand, I have 1) Forvo saying it's [xiao1] https://forvo.com/search/%E8%82%96%E6%81%A9/ 2) A video in which it's not clear that the 肖 in 肖恩 is [Xiao4]. (Thanks for that, Matic.) 3) The fact that various sources say 肖 in words like 肖邦 (for example) is 1st tone. e.g. http://chinesepod.com/tools/glossary/entry/%E8%82%96%E9%82%A6 On balance, I don't see enough evidence to change [Xiao1] back to [Xiao4]. |
