<< review queue entry 58492 - submitted by 'ycandau' >> means not "petticoat" "nepotism" is not quite right since 裙带 refers to ties thru females --------------------------------------------------- Editor: In support of the more general sense of 裙帶風: 1) On the following page, titled 多国政坛出现裙带风, George Prescott Bush is cited as the first example of 裙带风. His most prominent connections are patrilineal: his father is Jeb Bush, his father's father is former president George H W Bush, and his father's brother is former president George W Bush. 2) various other sources suggest that the "female relative" element has been generalized. e.g. the following definition of 裙帶關係 doesn't mention women: 不論你在世界上哪裡工作,裙帶關係(在親戚朋友和外人之間偏袒前者) Another example for 裙帶關係 (apparently nothing to do with female relatives): 「早期越南法令不健全,漏洞處處,台商深諳裙帶關係及紅包文化,很吃得開,」 "Initially, Vietnamese law was incomplete and full of loopholes. Taiwanese firms were able to do well through connections and understanding the bribing culture." Regarding 裙帶, my E-C dict says: waist.band <<名詞>> 1 腰帶 2 褲帶, 裙帶 Wp ~ 裙帶資本主義(英語:Crony capitalism),...
