It's used a lot in forums and book remarks all over the place.

In a particular context, it can mean "enter the palace [to become a eunuch]".
e.g. speaking to a boy: 你娘窮,養不起你,所以把你送進宮。
But in other contexts, it could mean "enter the palace [to become a concubine, or a palace physician, or to present something to the emperor etc]". E.g.
- 听说他们要把你送进宫做贵妃啊
- 进宫做御医
- 當工匠帶著精心完成的象箸進宮,...

I don't know what you mean by "(Slang-Webnovel/Author-of) Discontinued Works".
