But we don't do given names. Otherwise we would have names like 秀英 that are also very common. As it happens, we do already have an entry that makes it clear that 晶晶 is a girl's name: 郭晶晶 [Guo1 Jing1 jing1] /Guo Jingjing (1981-), Chinese female diver and Olympic gold medalist/ By the way, if you do an image search for "hazel", the pictures are virtually all girls. That doesn't prove that "hazel" is just a girl's name. 晶晶 is actually defined in various dictionaries as "bright, shining, glistening" etc It's used in terms like 藍晶晶 shining blue 黑晶晶 black and lustrous 亮晶晶 gleaming, glistening 白晶晶 glistening white So it's not "just a name". In Chinese, "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" is 《一闪一闪亮晶晶》 Another example: 一塊7尺見方、亮晶晶的太陽能板高高掛在這棟廠房頂樓。 Mounted high on its roof is a gleaming seven-foot-square solar panel. |
