/to circulate copies/ might give a wrong idea.
(whereas /(of a text) to circulate as copies/ might be right. Strange eh?)

Probably this is not perfect. Like several 傳X words we have seen lately, they are not really hard to understand, but glossing feels inadequate.
I gave an active and a passive def (which would be superfluous) to avail myself of a larger choice in the wording of glosses.
