Four of these five were created one after the other on a day when the editor created or modified about 100 entries.

Editor: yeah, creating heaps of half-baked entries is just more work for other editors

I do agree that it's no more necessary to define 自作 than to define 自受
Diff:
# Construct, perhaps? Is "act for oneself" right? That's an ambiguous expression anyway (act from one's own initiative / act on one's own behalf)
# ABC has "make by oneself", btw. It works for this J example ~ 他弹奏了一首自作的钢琴奏鸣曲。
# Google can offer only a few dozen results for 自作漂亮.
# Even fewer for 自作贤惠 or "自作嫵媚".
# Google ~ No results found for "自作貞淑".
# In other words, maybe that sense occurs in relatively few collocations such as 自作聪明.
- 自作 自作 [zi4 zuo4] /to act for oneself/to view oneself (as clever, virtuous, attractive)/
#
# I don't think this could mean "smart aleck" (or any other type of *person*)
# J ~ A smart aleck. 自作聪明的人
- 自作聰明 自作聪明 [zi4 zuo4 cong1 ming2] /to think oneself clever (idiom)/self-styled genius/a smart aleck/
+ 自作聰明 自作聪明 [zi4 zuo4 cong1 ming2] /to think oneself clever (idiom)/
#
# "act for oneself" seems wrong?
# And "to make your bed and lie on it" would be better as "as you make your bed, so you must lie in it", I think.
- 自作自受 自作自受 [zi4 zuo4 zi4 shou4] /to act for oneself and suffer the consequence/to reap what one has sown/to make your bed and lie on it/
+ 自作自受 自作自受 [zi4 zuo4 zi4 shou4] /to reap what one has sown (idiom)/to stew in one's own juice/
#
# This one seems OK, though TP examples suggest "go it alone" might be a good gloss.
# 自作主張 自作主张 [zi4 zuo4 zhu3 zhang1] /to think for oneself and act accordingly (idiom); to act on one's own initiative/
#
# This one was reviewed in 2011 and seems OK.
# 自作多情 自作多情 [zi4 zuo4 duo1 qing2] /to imagine that one's love is reciprocated/to shower affection on an uninterested party/
