<< review queue entry 58931 - submitted by 'ycandau' >> ABC, wrong again given the sense of 抵 I was suspicious M 以价值、功能相当的东西替代使用。 如:「这张优待券可以抵用一百元。」 J collection item 收妥方能抵用的存入票据 (I guess "collection item" is financial jargon here) =============================== The only example that could be problematic in J: ~He can do the work of two. 他一个人抵两个用。 which you could construe as a splitting of 抵用, "to serve a purpose" into (抵)(两个用), "to serve two purposes" and I can find similar examples: 你的iPad 说不定就能抵两个用了 However the translation in J is in fact correct, and the sentence must be construed: (一个人)(抵)(两个)+用 i.e. the word 抵用 is not latent in that sentence. I have examples of this in my Tw dict: @抵: 分量夠, 能充當, 代替:例「一個抵兩個用」 and similar constructions w/o 用: 你老公一個抵十個 我一個抵四個嘛 or with 用 總是把人才當奴才,而且習慣把一個抵十個用 名牌眼鏡買一個抵十個用 The meaning is still clear: it's one is worth ten, not one can serve ten purposes |
