"brutal person"?
That would be from X's
2.指凶恶者。
But I guess that means "(using 残暴 to describe somebody) indicates that (the person) is a 凶恶者 (a nasty piece of work)". Otherwise, why not just make the gloss 凶恶者 instead of 指凶恶者?

Editor: I think use as a transitive verb in classical (as documented in dicts) is more or less a given, and in any case easily understood.
Diff:
- 殘暴 残暴 [can2 bao4] /bloody and cruel/a brutal person/to massacre/an atrocity/
+ 殘暴 残暴 [can2 bao4] /brutal/vicious/ruthless/
