dicts have defs like
周而复始地运转
and in fact is said a lot of (a) satellites etc (b) trains etc
but translating as "revolve" would be too specific.

of course most examples on J would be about computers
but there are a few examples of "operate" in a general sense:
The airport is operative again after the bad weather.
恶劣天气过后机场又重新运行了。
The thermostat provides heating-cooling for year-round use.
这个温度控制器可适用全年运行的采暖降温控制。

I propose to keep a separate gloss for "trains etc", although it's a bit redundant, because it's a main use of the word

Editor: I think it should be "along one's course" rather than "in one's course".
Let me know if you disagree with that.
Diff:
- 運行 运行 [yun4 xing2] /to be in motion/to move/(of a computer) to run/
# + 運行 运行 [yun4 xing2] /to move in one's course (of celestial bodies etc)/(fig.) to function/to be in operation/(of a train service etc) to operate/to run/(of a computer) to run/
+ 運行 运行 [yun4 xing2] /to move along one's course (of celestial bodies etc)/(fig.) to function/to be in operation/(of a train service etc) to operate/to run/(of a computer) to run/
