the kind of glosses (mostly out of dicts, themselves translating Ch dicts) that sound like empty words, especially the first one. Whats is "just" ? What is "honorable"?

1.
Ch defs are all copied from one another, like
or
mostly saying a person is not hiding anything and behaving correctly.

M example
probably means he is an honorable person, he is not up to any tricks.

2. lots of example of use as "playing fair", "above board"

3.
some examples from dicts are at odds with their defs (they don't seem to mind...)
(it's about a situation, not a person; and obviously it means it is (or it can be brought) out in the open)
(why doesn't he openly come for me?)

I think I can easily find other examples where it means "for everyone to see":

4.
significant J examples:
We play fair with him if he plays fair with us.
He behaved honestly, and like a man.
I believe one has to play the game-but that' s ethics.
When he couldn't get what he wanted openly and honestly, he resorted to low cunning.
"I'm thirty," I said. "I'm five years too old to lie to myself and call it honor."
Why didn't you come up the stairs openly instead of skulking about like a thief, hiding halfway up the stairs and listening in?
Diff:
- 光明正大 光明正大 [guang1 ming2 zheng4 da4] /just and honorable/open and aboveboard/without tricks (idiom)/
+ 光明正大 光明正大 [guang1 ming2 zheng4 da4] /(of a person) honorable/not devious/(of a behavior) fair and aboveboard/without tricks/openly/(of a situation) out in the open/
