"new moon"? Can this be right?
Wp ~ "The Moon is not visible at [new moon] except when it is seen in silhouette during a solar eclipse or illuminated by earthshine."

The following quote suggests that the moon is bright during 月光期:
但是艾虎在明亮的月光期明显增加了对平坦灌. 丛区域的利用时间,灌丛作为一种隐蔽场所
...
以上结果表明昼夜变换使艾虎形成了相对稳定的生物钟节律, 艾虎在取食过程中可能利用洞道等隐蔽场所降低明亮月光期的高捕食风险。

If the definition is correct, is there a word for "from full moon to new moon" (the 2nd half of the cycle)?

中共導彈恫嚇漁民處變不驚, 目前正值「月光期」, 有些漁船索性暫緩出港。
Would those fishing boats postpone putting out to sea because the moon is in its waxing phase?

Editor:
This def is in Chinese dictionaries. It corresponds to English "light of the moon" (despite what E dicts say). The opposite, "dark of the moon", can be 無月光氣 or 月暗期 (not in dicts)

However:
- 月光氣 elicits remarkably few Google hits. I've looked at a considerable number of pages, and mostly it's taken as a construct (as in R's article above) or with vague meaning, "somewhere around the full moon"
- it can be suspected that this entry is a translation of the English, a word that even in English not many people know or use correctly; as such it is unlikely that the entry is of any use to anybody.

note: if it was proven that 月光期 is a definite Chinese notion, even obscure or rarely used, then an entry in the dict would be justified.
Diff:
- 月光期 月光期 [yue4 guang1 qi1] /from new moon to full moon/
# + 月光期 月光期 [yue4 guang1 qi1] /from new moon to full moon/
