Does it mean "to audition" (i.e. give a demonstration of one's ability as a performer)?
LA sounds like "sit for an oral exam"?
How about sth like "to be interviewed (as a candidate)"?
----------------------

Are some of our other entries constructs if 面試 is suitably defined?
面試工作 面试工作 [mian4 shi4 gong1 zuo4] /job interview/to interview for a position/
面試會 面试会 [mian4 shi4 hui4] /interview (for the assessment of a candidate)/
謀取面試 谋取面试 [mou2 qu3 mian4 shi4] /to be interviewed for a job/

Editor: there are other words for "audition".
i don't loose much sleep over dicts, as this word is widely used for "interview", whereas 口試 is an oral exam
Diff:
- 面試 面试 [mian4 shi4] /to interview/to audition/interview/audition/
# + 面試 面试 [mian4 shi4] /to interview/to audition/interview/audition/

# Editor: taking your suggestion; but "to interview" can be said of the candidate too
+ 面試 面试 [mian4 shi4] /to be interviewed (as a candidate)/interview/
# you can say that, it's just a loose construct in C. As a noun, it's "the work of interviewing people"
- 面試工作 面试工作 [mian4 shi4 gong1 zuo4] /job interview/to interview for a position/
# it's more like a "job fair" than "an" interview
- 面試會 面试会 [mian4 shi4 hui4] /interview (for the assessment of a candidate)/
# construct, and it doesn't seem anybody says that
- 謀取面試 谋取面试 [mou2 qu3 mian4 shi4] /to be interviewed for a job/
