From what I've looked at so far (Web, dicts), 提词 is about assisting sb who is speaking to an audience by telling him the words he needs to say. A "cue" on the other hand is usually not a word or phrase that a speaker needs to *say*. Rather, it's a signal for sb to begin some action. cue a : a signal (as a word, phrase, or bit of stage business) to a performer to begin a specific speech or action b : something serving a comparable purpose : hint And if "a cue" is understood in this way, then "to prompt" might be taken to mean one of these senses - cause someone to take a course of action. "curiosity prompted him to look inside" - (of an event or fact) cause or bring about (an action or feeling).
