/to be sure/to be certain/sure/certain/ : little value in adding adjectives which use exactly the same words as the verbs
(and there is in fact some ambiguity)
--> /to be certain/to be positive/

/to confirm/to affirm/
"confirm" is a bit off maybe.
"affirm" is the contrary of "deny"--I group it with "give recognition"--affirmative answer is an often-encountered construct, likely the only place 肯定 is used as a qualifier.

/to approve/ is wrong--I think

/definite/ : redundant with /certain/; if /definitely/was aimed for, I replace with /assuredly/definitely/ (one of the most common use, well worth two glosses)
Diff:
- 肯定 肯定 [ken3 ding4] /to be sure/to be certain/sure/certain/definite/to confirm/to affirm/affirmative/to approve/approval/recognition/
+ 肯定 肯定 [ken3 ding4] /to be certain/to be positive/assuredly/definitely/to give recognition/to affirm/affirmative (answer)/
