Web ~ “后生可畏”形容年轻人很优秀，能超过前辈，让人敬畏。后生：指年轻人。 Therefore "will be redoubtable in later life" seems like a misinterpretation of the expression as a predicate, as if you could say 年輕人後生可畏. Therefore I suggest "the young will be redoubtable in the years to come" (Actually, I think it's more about the *present* than the *future* -- "we should be in awe of the potential of the young". The future tense ("will be") was probably influenced by the misreading of 後生 as "in later life".) 2) "a young person's abilities must be respected, though inexperienced" makes me wince, because it implies that a person's abilities can be (in)experienced. I suggest we just drop this gloss -- it's not needed. |
