Comment: (following discussion with Matic)

In English, at least, it seems that single-word common nouns are usually not capitalized, even when they are derived from somebody's name.
E.g.
daguerreotype – Louis Daguerre
fullerene – Buckminster Fuller
loganberry – James Harvey Logan
etc.

Let me know if there's a different rule for Pinyin.
A does not capitalize ~ 孔明燈 kǒngmíngdēng n. paper lamp capable of flight
Diff:
- 孔明燈 孔明灯 [Kong3 ming2 deng1] /sky lantern (miniature hot-air balloon used during festivals)/
+ 孔明燈 孔明灯 [kong3 ming2 deng1] /sky lantern (miniature hot-air balloon used during festivals)/
