trad 穀 – see K LA M A

Some members of a subfamily of the cuckoos, the Cuculinae, are always telling Chinese farmers to "Sow grain! Sow grain!" (bu gu).

When the oriental cuckoo passes through on its way north, it stops in Taiwan for a short rest, and one hears its "koo koo" call echoing through the summer mountains.

Thus it seems that people everywhere merely project their own words and desires onto the intonation of the cuckoo's song. So it is nothing remarkable if in China it is heard as "Sow grain" or "Better go back."
