"Web-based" needs a hyphen.

- doesn't mean "virtual reality (VR)" (immersive multimedia) -- it means "a fictitious world" or "a virtual world" or "the virtual world" (i.e. "the online world")
- it needn't be Web-based (see example #2)

I think 虛擬世界 should be considered a construct.

A vicious virtual world?

But is it not precisely because negative role models are so ubiquitous in the media, that trying to create a beautiful and harmonious fictitious world in the textbooks is self-deception? Furthermore, if what is written in textbooks bears no relation to what children see and hear around them, will this not also lead to hypocrisy and confusion in their moral values?

The Wild and Wooly World of the Internet has seemingly become a new tool in the arsenal of those aiming to scam wealth and goods. Recently, a case was discovered involving a girl at a vocational high school who engineered a series of cyberspace romances. The case helped society put in focus just how easy it is to create illusions and lead people astray in the virtual world.

From time to time, through this little Paiwan website, I can remind myself that the virtual world is not without real warmth.
[Here, it means *the* virtual world, rather than "a virtual world", a suggested in our definition.]

This can be a real-world environment, but it can also be a virtual Internet community that brings together people with common concerns.
